Receipt printer installation
Use this in a customer help article:
**Install a Receipt Printer**
Before you begin, make sure:
- The receipt printer is installed in Windows and appears in the Windows printer list on the POS computer.
- The printer is powered on, loaded with paper, and can print a Windows test page.
**Step 1: Add the printer in the software**
1. Open `Settings`.
2. Select `Printers`.
3. Click `New`.
4. Enter a `Printer Name`.
Example: `Receipt`
5. In `Computer Name`, enter the name of the POS computer that the printer is connected to.
Tip: if you are editing the terminal later, you can double-click the Computer Name field there to auto-fill the current machine name.
6. In `Device Name`, select the printer exactly as it appears in Windows.
7. In `Model`, choose the printer model that matches your device.
Common options in the software include `TMT88` and `TMT88III`.
8. Turn on `Text Mode` only if your printer setup requires text printing.
If you are unsure, leave it off first and test.
9. Optional: enter a `Receipt Header` and `Receipt Footer`.
10. Click `Save`.
**Step 2: Assign the printer to the terminal**
1. Open `Settings`.
2. Select `Terminals`.
3. Edit the terminal for the workstation that will print receipts.
4. In `Receipt Printer`, choose the printer you created in Step 1.
5. If needed, also set the `Invoice Printer`, but this is separate from the receipt printer.
6. Click `Save`.
**Step 3: Test the printer**
1. Go back to `Settings > Printers`.
2. Highlight the printer.
3. Click `Test`.
4. Confirm the printer outputs the test receipt.
**If the printer does not print**
- Verify the printer is installed in Windows on that same computer.
- Confirm the `Device Name` in the software matches the Windows printer name exactly.
- Confirm the `Computer Name` is correct.
- Make sure the terminal is assigned to the correct `Receipt Printer`.
- Check that the printer is online and has paper.
- If printing still fails, try switching `Text Mode` on or off and test again.
**Important**
If no receipt printer is assigned to the terminal, the software will block receipt printing and show a message that the receipt printer is not set up.
